Momma In Focus - Patriotic

This week's prompt was Patriotic.  I got so many adorable pictures of Daisy in her patriotic dress which will come in a later post but, for now I thought I would share this hilarious patriotic picture.  I know my face looks scary....seriously, what the heck is up with my evil look...but, really this is my excited face and it makes Daisy happy.  We had a wonderful day celebrating our countries independence at the lake, eating delicious food with our family!  Can I just say how thankful I am for the freedom we have in this country.  I feel incredibly blessed and am so grateful to all the men and women who sacrificed to make this a beautiful place to live.  Thank you to all who have or are serving!  What made your celebration memorable this year?

Isn't it a riot the things we will do as parents to make our kids happy, to get them to laugh or to get them to stop crying.  For example, the past few nights that I have been putting Daisy down for bed she has started screaming like she is terrified and just to emphasize how weird this is....she rarely ever cries at all let alone in hysterics.  Not to mention she is an angel about going to bed at night.  A piece of cake! Now she becomes hysterical within a few seconds and clings to me and shakes.  I'll be honest, it bothered me.  I am not a tough momma who can just listen to that blood curdling random scream and not be moved and concerned.  So, tonight I spent about 20 minutes with half of my body bent over the rail of the crib so my face could rest on Daisy's and my hand could hold hers tightly.  I sang a soft, "Jesus loves you this I know," song into her ear and stroked her cheek.  She had those hysterical chokes for about 10 minutes and then finally calmed down and started to doze off but, the second I tried to slowly slip away she started screaming again.  It only lasted a minute though as I think she conked out from sheer exhaustion.  Within a few minutes of walking out of the room, my right thigh was completely numb.  Only now did it dawn on me that it was the result of pinching my body in half for nearly half an hour.  Oh the things we mommas do for our little ones:). I read online that my gal could be going through a phase of being afraid of the dark and afraid of being left alone in her room at night so I will be sure to get her a little nightlight from now on.  Hopefully this is just a funky phase that will pass quickly and we can get back to our easy bedtime routine!  Oh, oh, Oh how I love this little girl!

Next week's prompt: Orange

  1. Love this photo - I was actually very scared of the dark so I'd totally get a night light. Ironic that now I sleep with an eye mask. HA HA

  3. I LOVE this photo! The dress is adorable but your face--oh, it just makes the shot that much better! :D (Sammy has a color-changing nightlight from Ikea that he loves--he thinks Daisy would like it, too!)

  4. I don't think any good mom, no mater her stance on crying it out, would just throw her baby in her crib if she just randomly started screaming when her norm is not to scream when going to bed. I think any mom who does that isn't "tough", but just inconsiderate and mean.

  5. Thats a total mom face!! I do it all the time too. I'm surprised my kid isn't scared of me!
I really hope daisy won't be scared at bedtime anymore, it really sucks hearing your baby cry and being scared:( All the best! I'm sure daisy will love you all the more for being such a comfort:)

  6. I LOVE this shot! And I think you look so cute, not scary or evil at all! ;)

Kerriann went through a stage where she was terrified of going to bed, but it passed quickly. Hopefully the same will happen for Daisy!

  10. Are you tired of me saying how much I love your photos? I think it's because of the emotion involved...it seems the moments are captured perfectly and this picture is no exception!

  15. Wyatt went through something very similar at about that age...I haven't read all of the comments, so if someone has already mentioned this, forgive me, but the link below is to the little Tyke Light that I bought him. It solved our problem the first night.

Oh, and don't be so hard on yourself...your excited face is perfect...especially if Daisy likes it!

  22. I love this post, Casey! You are so right, we would do anything, wouldn't we? I know that feeling, usually it's my arm that goes numb from reaching in the crib to stroke a tired tummy.

We bought one of those nightlight animals, I think Target sells them now. Ours is a ladybug, it's battery operated, and it lights stars on the ceiling. My 2 year old loves it, and if she wants it in her crib, it's okay too, because there are no cords. It shuts off after 20 or 30 mintues.

I love the photo of you...you don't look scary - you look like one happy Momma and Daisy looks adorable in her red white & blue. I'd print that photo for the scrapbook!
