Photo Frame Wall Collage

I am aware that this has to be the most boring photo ever taken. Imagine looking at this wall everyday in your home! lol. I've wanted to turn this wall into a photo frame wall collage for some time now but, frankly I'm am having decorator's cold feet! I know what I want more or less...see the photos below. I want the collage to have a variety of frames in different sizes and possibly different color frames and styles and to feel eclectic but also eye appealing. Tricky! I know I need to lay everything out on a piece of paper first and practice but, I don't know how to get the right look! I think I need to go on the Nate Berkus show and have him show me how to do it!! HAHAHA Do any of you like that show? I thoroughly enjoy it! Any tips, suggestions, ideas??

I LOVE THIS ONE (below) but, I don't want to do all black and white photos

  2. Oh I LOVE wall collages! I'm working on my very own in my living room now. It's small, but it's slowly growing. I have all different types/colors of frames, I did it that way so that when/if I add to it - I won't be worried about finding the same or similar frames. Can't wait to see what you come up with!

  5. I got one at Khol's years ago that I love!! It has about 5 frames, with different frame sizes, and a two little shelves. It had all different kinds of ways you could arrange it. Big walls are hard to fill up. I'm not sure what room this is in, but it looks like a bench would look good there, and then some pictures above the bench.

  7. I like the Nate Berkus show too. He has a lot of good ideas.

In my kitchen I have black frames but they hold pics AND artwork from the kids. The black frames keep it cohesive even though what's in the frames is pretty eclectic!

  11. I watch the Nate Show all the time. He has some awesome ideas. I love seeing how frugal yet very nicely done up rooms some of his guests can pull off. I think a collage on that wall would look awesome!! I read on a website somewhere that you could cut out paper shapes to mimic the frame sizes and shapes you want and use that to help you decide on an arrangement you like. :)

  16. Looks like a fun project to take on! I think Martha Stewart had a tutorial on how to do something similar a while back. Here's the link:

  17. Oh, I LOVE the first one SO MUCH! I think it works well because all of the frames and prints are pretty neutral. Since you want to use some color prints, it may look better to do all one color of frame...they don't have to be the exact same frames, just the same color, like in the last picture.
A few months ago, I redecorated my son's nursery into a "big boy" room, and I incorporated a very similar photo frame project...and blogged about it. Here's a link to my blog if you want to check it out:

My one piece of advice: let yourself be okay with just "eyeballing" everything. I stressed out too much about making a template, etc. In the end, I just laid out the frames for each wall on the floor to work out a pattern I liked, then I just held it up on the wall where it looked good, and nailed it. When all was said and done, it is impossible to see any of the tiny imperfections I was so worried about.
    Have fun!

  20. I love all of these! Have you checked out "The Nesting Place?" She has some pretty great tutorials on photo walls and whatnot. I Think the key is to just make sure you use photos and decor that means something to you. Your favorite photos, etc. and remember that it's YOUR wall, YOUR story...you can't really mess it up! Can't wait to see what you come up with!

  26. Wall Galleries/collages are so fun. I grew up with them in all my grandparents houses and my families house. Its such a good way to display art and your family. You have the perfect space to do it. And it will look fabulous.
