9 Year Anniversary - Mewidge is What Bwings us Together Tewday

Today, 9 years ago (holy cow!), my husband and I walked down the aisle of our Calvary Chapel Church in California.  We exchanged vows and sealed our union before God, family and friends.  Sweet luau songs were playing in the background and we both wore white for the tropical themed occasion.  My hubby shed quite a few tears (he's always been the crier in this relationship..hehe) and I had a grin that couldn't be tamed.  If ever a perfect day existed in an imperfect world, that day sure came close.

My hubby and I have been on so many marvelous adventures together and I look forward to many more.  I've learned that my hubby is passionate about fishing and me not so much.   He's learned that I am passionate about traveling, photography and seeing new places. When possible we combine those different passions into one adventure to satisfy us both.  I think they call that compromise:). We've experienced incredibly painful losses together and found that we grieve very differently.  One of us prefers space and the other desires close support.  That has been interesting. lol

We are far from being the people that we were when we got married 9 years ago and that is a good thing.  I sure as heck wouldn't want to be the same gal now that I was at 21!  Life has shaped us, grown us, matured us, stretched us and forever changed us.  Life is a wild and wonderful journey of ups and downs and all arounds and so to is marriage.

As you all may have gathered by now if you've read my blog for any length of time; I enjoy sharing as openly as possible about my life and the different seasons that I go through.   One of the reasons I started this blog was to use it as an outlet to encourage and inspire others by sharing my heart and my faith.  I deeply admire people who are real and honest about life and what they learn as they go through it.  It's not easy to be open about things going on in our lives when life isn't going the way we want it to.  After all, it would be much easier for me to lead you all on to believe that I have a perfect life, perfect family, perfect home and everything is hunky-dory all the time.  Then you might have less to give me advice on, worry about, judge me for etc.  Plus that would make me look better and of course we all want everyone to think we have it all together but, I've come to the realization that I would rather risk my reputation being real than have a reputation built on falsehood.  That superficial kind of living reminds me of the movie, The Stepford Wives and that was just down right creepy.   I recognize that not everyone needs to talk about their personal lives and some people even refuse to.  I respect that.  Everyone is different and that's a good thing but, I've always been most inspired by the people who are brave enough to share their stories even when it is uncomfortable for them.  They face their fear and they surrender their pride for the sake of helping others and to me that is heroic.  I am so encouraged by those who tell their stories of going through hell and back and coming out victorious on the other side.  Their stories have given me hope to press on and the strength to cling to God's truth even when the enemy has wanted desperately to rip it away from me. (Don't you like that I have a picture of us "picking" our noses beneath such a serious paragraph. hehe Humor is the spice of life!)

So in the spirit of keeping it real I'm going to share a wee bit with you.  I think my hubby and I would agree that our personal lives and our marriage have been in the trenches for a few years now...and I mean really in the trenches.  Life has been incredibly hard and often extremely painful for both of us for various reasons that I won't get into at this time...someday perhaps!  Our relationship has been stretched farther than we could have ever imagined and in many ways due to circumstances outside of our control.  I think we were both blindsided by the rough turn that our lives and marriage took.  Things had been going so well overall and we were without a doubt each others best friend.  We were both passionate about maintaining strong communication, openness, trust and respect.  We've always loved being together and doing just about everything together.  We are both passionate about marriage and we worked hard to have a strong, Christ-centered relationship.  We have attended marriage bible studies and read lots of relationship books.  We have gleaned wisdom regularly from older couples that we admire.  We have done all the "right" stuff and all the "Christian stuff" to protect our marriage from all harm and threat.   Marriage hasn't ever been easy per se even when it was great...but, the work was edifying and worth it.  It was like the feeling you get after working hard in your yard all day.  Your body aches from the labor but, when you look around and see how your efforts created something beautiful, it makes all that pain and labor worth it.  It takes work to have a good marriage but, the work is well worth the beautiful relationship that grows out of the effort, the sacrifice and the compromises.  You simply cannot have a good or healthy marriage without lovingly tending to it.

Sometimes things in life happen that you simply could not have prepared for or ever imagined.  These things can catch you completely off guard and knock the wind out of your sails and your marriage.  Maybe the death of a child or other close family member.  Maybe complete financial ruin.  Maybe infidelity. Maybe betrayal.  Maybe horrific illness or permanent disability.  Sometimes, even the best marriages go through incredibly rough seas and many don't make it.  I suppose our nearly 60% divorce rate in the US is a sad indication of this reality.

My husband and I have been married for 9 years and have been together like peanut butter and jelly for over 13 years... that is almost half of my life at this point!  Crazy huh.  I can't tell you how many people have nonchalantly said to me, "you guys will always be together.  Marriage just comes so naturally to you guys.  It's effortless for you."  I can't decide if I want to smack them in the face for their shortage of intelligence or say thank you because I know they mean well.  The truth is, we are still married in spite of all we've been through, because of Jesus and our desire to surrender to Him.  We are still married because we want to honor Him with our lives even in the midst of incredible pain and trial.  We are still married because we believe that marriage is worth fighting for because God created it and we know how awesome it can be.  We are still married because we are choosing to be.

Lemme tell yah, marriages are at war with a brutal adversary.  There is an enemy and he does not want our marriages to succeed.  I always keep that fact in mind because I see things differently when viewed through that lens.  The enemy has been working over time in his efforts to destroy the beautiful marriage that my husband and I had built together on Christ as our foundation.  The enemy thrives on the destruction of beautiful things.  He wants to hurt us and in fact he takes great pleasure in breaking our marriages and our lives apart.  If the enemy wants marriage that bad it must have incredible value. He seeks to devour only the things that he knows God loves.  So be alert.   This is one of my many favorite passages in scripture, "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place,  and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people." Ephesians 6:10-18  I hope that I never have to go to war for my country but, I can tell you that there are times in our lives that we are at war with the enemy on a spiritual level and that warfare is downright intense. God's armor is SO powerful and it DOES protect us from the enemies attacks.  You must put it on every single day.

A while back a friend pinned the fantastic video on marriage that I have attached at the bottom of this post.   I already know much of what Pastor Francis discusses but to be honest, I NEEDED to hear it again.  I needed to hear someone that I admire and respect, remind me of the truth and why it is worth living out in my marriage.  Everything that this couple discusses comes straight out of scripture and yet it contradicts just about everything that this world teaches us about love and marriage.  The world tells us to follow our heart...eh wrong. "The heart is hopelessly dark and deceitful, a puzzle that no one can figure out. But I, God, search the heart and examine the mind. I get to the heart of the human. I get to the root of things. I treat them as they really are, not as they pretend to be." (Jeremiah 17:9, 10 MSG) The world tells us to act based on how we feel...eh wrong.  Feelings change like the winds and basing decisions on our fickle feelings is never wise.

Pastor Francis and his wife have done a beautiful job of challenging us to consider our false beliefs about marriage and re-evaluate what marriage is really supposed to be about.  It's hard stuff to take in but, it is truth and truth heals, transforms and brings things to light that have been hiding in darkness. WATCH IT.  Take the time.  Really, 50 minutes of great marriage counseling is a sacrifice worth making.  And if you are not married they suggest you watch it anyways because this will give you a better understanding of marriage and what to focus on before tying the knot.

The truth is that I love my husband dearly even when things are messy and he loves me too...even when marriage isn't going as well as we'd like it to.  I love him to pieces and he is still my friend even when our friendship is being tested.  God has given us the strength to hold on to the truth of what it means to love someone. "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." 1 Corinthians 13.  Can you put your name in the place of love in each of these statements?  Don't worry..none of us can. :)  Only God can stand in the place of love and all things will still apply.  God IS love. This passage of scripture simply reveals that we all have room to grow and things to work on.

I've known my hubby since I was 16 and we have walked through SO much together.  He is the hardest working man I have ever known hands down and He has provided for me and our daughter so faithfully without complaint.  He is handsome and smart.  He enjoys serving me by helping with the housework (every women's dream) and he does it happily.  In the harder seasons of life and marriage etc. it's so important to hold tightly to the good things and to the truth in God's word because the enemy wants desperately to rip it all out of your hands and leave you grasping for anything worth fighting for.  Hold tightly to Jesus and to His promises for your life and marriage.  Our emotions are so fickle and they change day to day and sometimes hour by hour.  Try not to make hasty decisions based on fleeting and unstable emotions.  Remember to filter your feelings and emotions through God's word and seek him first above all else.  He will let you know if your feelings and emotions are lining up with truth.  Seek the Lord in prayer, wait for His direction and then you can proceed to move forward with his blessing knowing that you are anchored in truth. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6

Don't worry about us or take what I have shared in love and freak out or jump to conclusions puh-lease!  I only shared all this in the hope that if you too are going through a challenging marriage season now or perhaps if you go through one in the future you can know that a.) you are not alone!!  Sometimes it's incredibly encouraging just to know that other people can relate to what you are going through  b.) that God loves you to pieces and wants to see your marriage succeed and thrive and He will see you through.

I see the light in what has been a really long tunnel.  I have confidence in what God is doing and I trust Him at the helm.  I know we will be on a romantic vacation in Europe before too long.  Well, that's my plan...the hubby would probably like to go fish somewhere.  I'll let you know how that works out:). lol   Tonight we are heading out to dinner and a movie to celebrate the past 9 wild years.  YEEHAW!  Sometime life is like riding a bull aint it.  Just keep hanging on.  He'll get tired sooner or later!
Humor has always been our secret weapon and we continue to laugh in spite of it all.  God is good both now and always and because of that we know that "every little things gonna be alright."

God is our Refuge and Strength

I took this picture while standing on our back patio just as Hurricane Irene was moving in.  Truthfully, nothing really amounted of the storm in our area but, we did get some beautiful clouds and cooler winds which were much appreciated.  I truly am in awe of the nature that surrounds me and all that God has created; the changing seasons, the gorgeous plants, animals, raging storms, powerful waterfalls, vast oceans and the diversity of human life.  Our God is great and mighty!

My life has felt very much like a storm for some time now.  Not everyday and not all hours of the day but quite often for well over a year now due to the challenging circumstances relating to my husband's health.  I love sharing with all of you what it is like in this season because I feel like the Lord can encourage others and minister through my transparency but, on the other hand I also want to respect the privacy of our home.  I'm always trying to find the right balance in this...I'm sure a lot of you can relate in the blogging world! lol.

This past week was especially trying and I definitely had many breaking points of exhaustion mentally and physically.  I had many moments of wanting to run away from life or just to go hide somewhere for a long time.  The fight to hold on to joy became increasingly difficult and my heart was unbearably heavy at times.  I am pretty good at pacing myself and staying positive...just ask my momma (lol) but, I guess the reality is that I am human not Superwoman and thus I too grow weary of weathering the storm.

Throughout this entire season I have prayed and trusted in the Lord steadfastly.  I haven't become angry at God or doubted that He loves me.  I haven't wondered why this is happening to us or why God isn't fixing everything and making our lives peachy keen again.  I get that life happens and that it rains on us all.  I get that as long as we live here on Earth that hard times and even harder times will inevitably come but, I must give all glory to God fur sustaining me during this storm as I know it is His strength and not my own.  It is often in these very dark and stormy times that God's word can come alive in a new way for us.  So many bible verses have taken on a whole new level of depth and meaning to me and I cling to them, like a ship wrecked passenger would cling to a life saving device.  God's word is powerful! It is true and holy and the promises of God steady my ship and calm the waves that try to overtake me.

My mom prayed with me this morning over skype.  Thank you God for making us intelligent enough that we could create such a fantastic form of communication! She also reminded me of the promise in God's word about the house that is built on the rock which is Jesus, and that when the waves beat against that rock they could not prevail against it.  God is my rock.  God my refuge.  God is my strength.  God is my help when I am in trouble.  Though the circumstances in our lives can seem overwhelming or unbearable at times, God is our peace and our comforter...if we let Him be.  Sometimes that is the challenge; letting God be God and not reducing Him to our level of rational thinking.  It's easy to chant God's word out without realizing its power but, when we do take hold of the word and of God's promises we truly can remain steady in the storm.

You may or may not be going through a storm of your own.  If you are in a storm, I pray that you can truly take hold of this verse below.  Take hold of it and don't let it go.  God is your refuge and your strength!  If all is well in your life, sweet! Then I just pray that you are also taking hold of God's promises and that you remember in your next inevitable storm that God is still good even when or if your circumstances aren't, that He loves you and that He will see you through!

If you ever need to share a prayer request with me or if you feel like a storm in your life is over taking you please shoot me an e-mail.  I would love to encourage you and remind you that God will see you through!

And now to lighten up this post I wanted to share a few pictures of my little munchkin that never made it to our blog when she was little.  Gosh, I miss that baby chunk, sweet baby breath and that chubby face smile so much!!

I just adore this picture of Daddy and Daisy below.  It really melts my heart when I see my little girl laughing and playing with my hubby.  Is there anything sweeter?

Happy Birthday To My Knight

Happy Happy 28th Birthday to my wonderful, amazing, best friend, knight in shining armor, prince charming, hard working, handsome, fish fanatic, Jesus lovin' husband!!!

The last 12 years with you have flown by.  We met in high school our junior year in keyboarding class and the friendship never ended!  We spent so many days after school on the sunny California beaches, you surfing and me laying out on the sand.  You had that awesome red Chevy truck with those loud subs that we used to crank up SO loud. We have explored new countries together, taken a cross country road trip, moved from our cozy home state of California to the unknown North Carolina, transitioned through different jobs, apartments and then moved into our first home that we watched being built from the ground up.  We have watched Friends Seasons 1-10 probably a million times together and each time, laughed as if we have never seen them before.  We love doing yard work together and would even fight over who could mow the lawn if our child didn't need my attention all the time. lol  You gave me the best gift ever....Daisy.  She looks so much like you.  Her brown eyes, round cheeks, little nose and infectious personality.  She has rocked our world and changed the way we see life.  I love when she does something hilarious and we laugh at her and then look at each other with that smile and twinkle in our eyes...the shared love we have for our child is priceless.

You are such a hard working guy and not a day goes by that you don't ask me, "honey, how can I serve you."  Who does that??  You do!  It blesses me so much that you actually enjoy serving me.  If I need anything....ever, you are on it and with a smile on your face.  You have set such an amazing example for me of loving your wife like Christ loved the church.  You really do babe.  You are a rare guy and I am a lucky gal.  So, since I didn't have a big hoopla for your birthday this year I wanted to make sure that you know just how much you mean to me!  I love you.  I love you.  I love you.  Forever and always.  xoxo

The Measure of a Man

IMG_0275manblog2
IMG_0329manblog3
IMG_0270manblog

I haven't been in much of a blogging or a blog hopping mood this past week so I thought it was time that I share why.

As I have mentioned briefly a few times in past posts my hubby has been battling various health issues. The biggie battles are with severe depression and anxiety. My strong, energetic, happy, hard working hubby has a chemical imbalance that requires that he always take something to keep balanced. The problem he ran into was that after 7 years, the medication was giving him severe headaches/migraines that were too much for him to handle. He also developed TMJ due to the side effect of clinching his teeth during his sleep from the medications. The TMJ is also severe and causes intense jaw pain on a daily basis. There is also an issue with his hearing/sound (TMJ related) and ulcers from the overwhelming stress. ALL of these things are intertwined and effect each other for the worse. My hubby tried to work these things out with the help of his doctors and counselors but, things were not improving so currently my hubby, the awesome man that he is, is seeking further support for the depression and anxiety with a treatment program. This is a VERY slow recovery and a VERY hard recovery for him and quite frankly for me. My hubby is am amazing guy and anyone who has met him knows that he is FULL of life and passion and that nothing slows him down. This has been going on for about a year and a half but, has been the hardest over the past 8 months or so.

I have never before felt called to a cause but, now more than ever I feel an overpowering desire to speak out about mental health. There are so many misconceptions about mental health but, there is also such a great need for better treatment and care for people battling their minds. I personally know so many people who live depressed on a daily basis and either don't recognize it or are afraid to admit it and get the help they need and deserve to live their life to the fullest. If any of you know someone or are personally battling depression/anxiety, etc. please know that you are not alone! Get counseling and if needed, find a temporary or permanent mediation that will bring you more balance with the help of a specialist.

I struggled with horrible depression the first 4 months of my pregnancy. I have experienced first hand how hormones can impair a person's ability to find joy. I have never had issues with depression before and I tried EVERYTHING to encourage myself to not feel the way I did and nothing helped. I remember the battle inside myself was so intense. I kept telling myself that I was stronger than the cloud hanging over me and that I could beat it but, I just couldn't. I didn't even want to share with anyone that we were pregnant because I wasn't excited about it at all... and for the record this was a VERYY wanted pregnancy so there was NO reason for me to not want to share other than I felt AWFUL. I remember to the day exactly when the cloud lifted. I woke up one morning and just felt VERY different. I immediately recognized that I felt lighter, and even happy. I hesitated to get too excited about the new feeling because I thought it might be temporary. I remember showering and expecting the cloud to come over me again at any second but, it never came back!! All this to say that I get it. I get that it is a chemical thing and that people can't just "choose to be happy," or use the "mind over matter," techniques in that state. It's more than just a bad day, week or even years.

My husband is an incredible man of God. Not a day goes by that he doesn't tell me how much he loves me or appreciates me during this challenging season. He is doing everything in his power to get himself well again and to me that is THE MEASURE OF A MAN. A man who has the strength even in weakness to do what is best for himself and his family. A man who is humble enough to admit that he needs help and yet strong enough to not let it dent his honor. A man man who leans on the Lord when he is weak and leans on those he loves instead of pushing them away in his pain. A man who doesn't try to fix it or do it all on his own when he knows he can't. A man who doesn't cast blame on others and instead excepts responsibility for his own actions. A man who is willing to share his struggles even in the face of them, with others in hope that he can help and encourage through his experiences. This truly is the measure of a man. I don't know when this "cloud"along with the other health issues are going to be a thing of the past but, I know if anyone can get through it, my husband can. We welcome your prayers and support!

We have had an outpouring of support from family, friends, our church and our neighbors. I am humbled by the love we have been shown during this season. Thank you a million times over to everyone who has reached out to us in some way or another and to everyone who is taking the extra time to stick with Joey (and me) during this long road to recovery.

I asked my hubby if he minded if I shared this and being the awesome guy that he is he gave me the green light to share because he trusts me. I'm a lucky gal to be able to blog about something so personal! One thing I know all to well is that secrets consume a person, a family and a marriage. We want to let it all hang out so to speak so that God can be given all the glory when Joey is well again. We want to be as real as we can with everyone so that we don't have to wear a mask. It is so tiring to wear a mask and if any of you are carrying one I hope you can learn to take it off and let out whatever you are holding on to. Though some will pull things out of context, we hope that this message will be well received and understood in Jesus name. If you have questions feel free to send me an e-mail. I am happy to answer any and all....don't speculate, just ask. Thanks so much friends!

We are about to celebrate 7 years of marriage on May 1st and we have been together for over 11 years now. Thanks to the Lord's constant efforts to refine us, we have a pretty solid foundation built on the rock. This season is very hard but, it is only making us stronger all praise to Jesus for that! These pictures were taken last year on our 6 year anniversary and I shared some last year but, wanted to share a few again today. I did just have a baby and it was 95 degrees out with sweltering humidity so forgive us for looking uh, moist! lol.

I love my guy to pieces! He is so handsome, funny, helpful, hard working, an awesome Daddy and my very best friend. Get well hubby so we can get back to exploring the wonders of the world together!! All my love.

Eating Solids - 19 weeks old today!

Love my pumpkin head baby girl:)
Daisy didn't love or hate her first cereal experience. We gave her super tiny bites and she was very serious the entire time but, she did swallow and ate several spoon fulls before she started losing interest and then spit up pretty bad. Day two was last night and she did much better. She seemed to really enjoy her cereal and even hummed as she waited for her next bite. I think Daisy is going to love eating solids!
Please trust me when I say that Daisy did not get a drop of soda on her tongue and I will not let her drink soda for a long time either. I just thought this would be a fun photo op and she enjoyed chewing on the bottle so it was fun for both of us:)
I hope this picture is not "inappropriate" for the web...I actually ADORE this picture. I had just finished changing Daisy's diaper last week and she just grabbed her foot and stuck her toe in her mouth for the first time. We were cracking up and I was lucky that she continued to nibble on her toe long enough for me to capture it on camera. Quite a flexible, chunky baby wouldn't you say? haha
I can't believe that Daisy is 19 weeks old today! It just blows me away that another week has come and gone. Daisy has been picking up on things so quickly these days. She is a super observant baby and loves to study people and make serious faces at them. She also loves to shriek when she is excited and last night she shrieked super duper loud with happiness in the grocery store and everyone turned and smiled at us. It was pretty cute:). Daisy found her feet last week and since then she has them in her hands at every chance she gets. she likes to roll onto her side while she is holding her feet and it is clear that she wants to master rolling over now but, for whatever reason she has forgotten how.

In response to the cry it out thing, I've decided to wait until Daisy is closer to 6 months before I put that possibility into full gear based on the feedback I received and based on my heart simply not being ready for that yet. In the meantime I have decided to work on her sleep processes in other ways. I've been cutting back on her little 3 minute arm rocking sessions before naps and bedtime. To be honest I am going to miss this little cuddle time dearly and it's a struggle for me to give it up so soon...what would you do? Anyways, my hope is that if I teach Daisy how to go to sleep without needing to be rocked at all that she might become a stronger sleeper on her own. I am pleased to share that we are making a little progress! I wait until she is good and tired and then lay her down with a blanket, I kiss her goodnight and stroke her cheek and then she will often fuss for a minute or two and I sometimes have to give her the pacifier back but, then she usually falls asleep within a few minutes without any major melt downs. This is still a very new process so we have good days and bad. At this point Daisy does not like anyone else putting her to bed besides me and when she is over tired she has full blown melt downs with other people. Have any of you ever had this issue with your babies? I mean...she really, really does not like going to sleep for anyone else and this has been a real challenge for me, for her and for the people who watch her for me. I'm hoping that if she learns to go to sleep on her own in her crib that she will be able to do that for anyone?? I hope...

I'm in the process of wrapping up my search for our next nanny. Jess's last day is this Friday so our potential nanny starts on a trial basis this upcoming Monday. I found her on a nanny service site and I pray that she and Daisy do well together!

Happy 19 week birthday my darling Daisy Love!! You are my sunshine little one:)

Lastly, but most certainly not least...my hard working hubby got a raise/promotion! He has been working so hard and we have been praying about him getting a raise for a while now and God has faithfully provided. I am so grateful that Joey has the job that he does. He works with great people, is appreciated and he is good at what he does. I know jobs in general are hard to come by these days and I'm just so thankful that Joey not only has a job but, has a good, steady job in a great company. Way to go babe! I'm so proud of you! xoxo

The Meat House

Joey and I were recently introduced to The Meat House by his mom (thank you!). I had the opportunity to stop by this fabulous new find with my hubby today. Ive never enjoyed cooking but, since my husband has taken a liking to grilling I am enjoying the experience a whole heck of a lot more! All I have to do is come up with simple, tasty side dishes (lol) like frozen garlic bread, frozen veggies, baked potatoes, bag salad, or even delicious Mac N Cheese...(did I mention that I hate cooking (??) and then he does the rest! It's wonderful! And for the record I am not proud of the fact that I am horrible and disinterested in cooking and I do attempt meals from time to time but, I have yet to actually enjoy the experience. After grocery shopping, preparing the meal, cooking the meal and cleaning up the mess I feel like I have worked a second shift. To all you ladies out there who love cooking I admire you!

We have always picked up our meat wherever we happen to be shopping whether that be a grocery store, Target or Wal-Mart and we were just fine with that but, now that my eyes have been opened to the awesomeness that is The Meat Market, I don't know if I will ever be able to buy my meat anywhere else!!! The moment we walked in the door, the aroma of delicious marinated meats filled our nostrils. The little shop is also full of gourmet marinades and specialty foods that you can't find anywhere else. There are tons of different types of steak, chicken, fish, ribs etc. to choose from and everything is super fresh and top notch quality. The customer service was excellent and we were even given two little packs of marinated steaks for free which is evidently the shops custom with first timers. How neat is that!

Here is a link to their shop if you want to check them out in your area: The Meat House If you stop by or are already a fan let me know and let me know what you enjoy getting from The Meat House so we can pick it up the next time we go!

Tonight Joey is grilling seasoned steak on our charcoal grill and tomorrow night in celebration of Joey's 27th birthday he is grilling some delicious seasoned chicken! YUM! He wanted to teach me how to grill, but let's be honest...if he teaches me how to grill then I won't be able to use the excuse, I don't know how, anymore to get out of it and that wouldn't be good!! hahahaha

Wow, I can't believe I actually did an entire post without saying Daisy, baby, sleep or mom. Well, I guess now I did:0

Everyone hanging out in the killer 90+ heat. One of these days we hope to build a patio cover!!
Joey's Mom, Sister and her boyfriend, Aunt and Uncle and Cousins all came over and we had a good ole Cali style BBQ. In North Carolina where we now live a BBQ is a pig roasting...in California where Joey and I grew up a BBQ is to grill any type of meat on a grill...not a whole pig for the record. So, that being said, we had a California style BBQ just to clarify:-) Joey's Uncle Tom is is an expert behind the grill in my opinion. I have never tasted such flavorful and juicy chicken, ribs and hamburgers in my life. I felt like some gourmet restaurant had stopped by to cook us all dinner!! Seriously, the meat was DELICIOUS!! We had yummy watermelon, rolls and roasted potatoes. It was such a wonderful day and we all had such a great time. Thank you Baileys and Martinez' for coming over. It was such a treat!!
