Capturing Her Essence

When I grew up, video cameras were the size of a small car and people would have to lug those suckers around for hours at the cost of severe shoulder cramps and stiff muscles for days just to capture special events.  Now we all have tiny, light weight cameras right at our fingertips (in our phones) and I have not captured even half as much as my family did before me.  I have no excuse.

 I got the urge this week to document through video and I carved out a little extra time to capture the essence of my kiddo who is almost four.  I wanted to capture her mannerisms and facial expressions, her conversational style, her vocabulary, her interests, her sweetness and silliness all at the same time.  She is changing so much every day it seems and this age really is so much fun.

Daisy is not great about carrying on as usual if she knows that I am recording her.  I have to make it appear as though the camera is sitting on the table away from me which is why she is off screen a bit in one of the videos.  

We had fun making coleslaw together or as she calls it Kholz.  I think she enjoyed making this "show" so much that we will be doing more of them in the future and maybe someday she will do a show all on her own:).  I hear that there happens to be another Daisy Martinez and she is a celebrity chef!  Maybe it has something to do with the name?  You never know...;)

 I am impressed that I am managing to pass on an interest in cooking in spite of the fact that I dislike it so much.  Maybe someday Daisy will love cooking so much that she will want to cook dinner for me every night.  Nah.  It never works out that way but, I'll keep telling myself that in the hope of keeping some wind in these sails of mine.  lol

  Oh and please excuse the ant that rudely video bombed us.  I noticed him after watching this video a handful of times and realized how gross it is to see a bug in a video revolving around food.  Sigh.  We have had a few of them marching around this winter but, I promise our house is not overrun with bugs and this food was eaten by our family...not guests. lol

 Daisy really wants to be "married."  She obviously has little to no idea what it means to be married but, she thinks it has something to do with wearing a white princess dress and that is enough to get her excited.  The boy she wants to marry is Vincent.  He is a sweet neighbor friend:).  

Daisy is such a mega girly girl but, she can also be wild and rough at times.  I'd say she's a good balance:).   I think this video captures so much of her personality.  Love my little peanut.

and here is a super short video of Daisy at her first ballet class. She loves ballet. The short 45 minute class can really wear her out because she strains so hard to do exactly what the teacher says and it doesn't always come easily for her.  She loves wearing her tutu and she loves wearing all pink.  It can be a challenge to get any color other than pink on her some days.  Little pink princess.

Soul Food for the Weary Of Heart

It's "The most wonderful time of year!" So much excitement and such a festive spirit in the air.  I know I absolutely love Christmas time and everything about this season.  I love the baked goodies, the smell of fresh pine, the twinkling lights on my neighbor's homes, the carols both old and new and the celebration of Jesus with my family.  I absolutely love it all!  Christmas time is such a welcome distraction from the day to day hardships but, for some people even Christmas time doesn't relieve the heartache, the pain or the suffering. 

A friend sent me this video a few weeks back and it has blessed me on more than one occasion since then, so I thought I'd share it with you all. For anyone in the midst of any kind of trial, season of struggle or suffering this is a great encouragement.  Our family trial continues on and has become a considerably long season...well over 2 years now. It's interesting how much long hard seasons shape us and open our eyes to things that we just weren't able to see before. I am so much more aware of the suffering and hurt around me and so aware of the fact that people are desperately in need of encouragement, hope, healing and truth. People are desperately in need of someone that they can be raw and real around.  People are weary and broken down.  For some, these hard seasons are quite short but, for others they carry on and on.

The little girl that we named our daughter after continues to battle cancer and fights for her life every day.  Her family fights to find joy and peace in the midst of such a painful trial.  Yes, life is hard for so many and I am convinced that it will inevitably be hard for us all at some point or another.  Pain is inescapable on this Earth but, what we learn from pain and how we let it shape us is depends on each of us.

It's understandable and completely natural that hardships might make us angry with God but, I have seen what unresolved anger can do to a person and it isn't pretty.   It might be just about he hardest thing in the world to submit our will and control to God in the midst of the hurricane but, I do believe that, that is where the greatest blessing lies. Sometimes faith is a moment by moment surrender.  Sometimes trusting in God is so hard but, as Beth Moore so awesomely puts it, "you will never know my Christ until he has brought you through something all by your little lonesome self and you chose to be obedient to Him and He was faithful to you. You will be marked forever!"  If you know what I am talking about you know how true that statement is...how powerful it is.  There is an enemy who longs to destroy our hope, our peace and our joy but, we must press on!  Another Beth Moore statement that I loved from this video, "God's got promises to fulfill...If you get gutsy enough to believe Him over your own emotions over your own destructive desires it's going to turn out well!" 

So for anyone battling chronic illnesses, job loss, relationship troubles, financial woes, family issues etc. be encouraged today...God is faithful and He will never leave you or forsake you!

Comparison

Daisy crawled up into our over sized chair this morning and I couldn't help but, notice how big she has gotten. Then I remembered the picture I took of her sleeping in the chair when she was just a wee little thing and I had to put the two pictures together to show what 2 years of growth looks like:). I think her leg now is longer than her entire body was at a month and a half!  The first several months were tough with Daisy. I couldn't get her to sleep anywhere but, she loved being snuggled up in this big chair with a blanket.  Oh the memories.

Boy it goes fast doesn't it.  I would love to get another comparison shot in a couple of years...but, then again I'd really like some new furniture so that might not happen. lol.  Anyways, I digress, isn't my little one cute!  She was watching a youtube video on my cell phone in the second picture.  She loves watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Jungle Junction lately.

My hubby pulled this video up on youtube tonight to show my mom. I had forgotten all about it and I turned to mush as I watched. Daisy has never been one to fall asleep outside of her bed. She never gets tired enough to shut down but, this particular day she got nice and relaxed in front of the TV. So precious...and yes, Daddy put her to bed right after this video was taken. And then this video was taken recently at dinner time. Daisy was absolutely cracking me up.   She has become very fond of singing and learning songs.  The 2 year old mind fascinates me.  They are so sharp and taking in so much more than we realize.  I love listening to her sing, talk and babble.  So much fun. My mom is here visiting from CA which is why I haven't been blogging. We tend to find ourselves vegging in front of the TV at night after I put my little one to bed and I forget all about pictures and blogging. LOVE having my momma here!!

I just can't get enough of this band. They are so talented, passionate and creative. Their lyrics have so much depth and they are just plain entertaining to watch.  I've pushed replay uh-lot today;).  Have you ever heard of them?

Silly Girl

Here are a couple of videos that have given me a lot of smiles over the past couple of months. There is never a dull moment as a parent:).  In effort to keep this post short and sweet I will just say that I am so incredibly thankful for my little girl.  I spent a little extra quality time with her today to make up for my sick week.  She is such a wonderful distraction from life at times and no one makes me laugh quite like she does.  I just love her to pieces!

SO Amazing

Wow. Wow. Wow. I was almost tempted to stop the video when I saw how long it was but, something nudged me to keep watching and I am SO glad that I did.  Take the time...sometime soon and give this a gander and be blessed and stirred by it.  It's such a beautiful, tangible, heart breaking and heart warming story of truth.  I was teary eyed for most of it and that is a big deal for me:).  Have you seen it already?  What did you think?

Video Saturday

All of these are at least a month old if not older but, being that it is the weekend I wanted to give our families something to watch if they would like to see Daisy bean "live." 

This first video is a riot!  This was actually back in July and Daisy was on this kick of saying "momma" way too much but, it was too funny not to film.  I giggle the entire time I watch this video now.

This was taken on Daisy's 16 month birthday over a month ago.  She gives Daddy such a sweet little kiss and loved walking around with her wand and tutu on.  Our little Princess.

This was filmed a while ago also during my youngest sister's visit.  Daisy was sick pretty much her entire visit which was such a bummer but, we tried to have fun cooped up in the house as best as we could.  Glad I got a little video with auntie!

Who knew that a bathroom cabinet could give a child 30 minutes of play time?  I have since revoked this activity as it requires me to empty everything dangerous out, then to clean up the huge mess she makes with the safe items and then to put everything away again.  Not worth it anymore but, it was cute while it lasted:-) 

This was back when Daisy was having a great time stacking things, putting shapes in her box (she has gotten much better at a variety of activities like this but, now she gets bored faster.  We play guessing games with different objects in cups now too so I will have to film that soon.  She is a sharp cookie!


Happy Saturday everyone!  I am officially down to my last two days of editing for the wedding I shot.  I am so excited to wrap it up and move on to the next chapter! Woohoo! 

It's Video Time

This first video was taken on Father's Day (so definitely a bit behind) when we were walking along the boardwalk in the protected marshlands in our town.  Daisy loved walking on her own like a big girl but, the sides drop off a few feet so we had to constantly keep her between us.  She didn't like that.  She wanted to go the other direction. It was a riot.  Then she wanted to bite me for not letting her do what she wanted.  Also funny.  And no, I really don't mind my butt at all...for the record, I was just being goofy.  Did that make you want to watch the video?? hehehe

I got a kick out of watching us playing Kinect on video.  It is so bizarre to play such an active game without a remote.  Seriously...I started playing Atari as a kid with a massive joystick and now all I need are my hands and feet...my how times have changed!!  I love when people come over and want to play Kinect.  It's such a fun way to get in some exercise and boy did my mom and I get quite a workout while she was here...not to mention I also got a pretty good neck strain for a few weeks...well, worth it though! lol

And this last video just cracks me up because I freaked out but, I think you kinda had to be there.  An ominous storm was blowing in and it was SO much more intense than this video makes it out to be.  Large branches were falling from the trees and falling to the ground or into the back of my husband's truck and boat.  Pine needles were swirling down like little spears which I thought might stab me in the face and the sky looked like it could create a slew of tornadoes if it wanted to.  It was freaky and as a result I was on edge filming this little clip right before we hopped in the truck to escape the downpour.  Comical really...

 Being that it is the weekend and I don't usually blog on the weekends I think Sundays might end up being my kick back day to share videos of Daisy for our family all over the states.  I know how much they all miss her so getting to see her "live" every week will be a real treat!  So, these are for you family!

Maternity Session

I had a blast doing this laid back indoor maternity session for our awesome neighbors.  They are welcoming their first child, a little boy named Jackson into the world next month actually!  We were scheduled to do our session at a beautiful lake nearby but, we got rained out.  We all agreed that we could make the most of things by carrying on and doing our session indoors.  I'll admit this had me a tiny bit nervous because I am not all that comfortable with indoor sessions when the sun isn't even out to shine into the house.  Well, thank God for a decent flash and for an awesome couple who made the experience a positive first for me!  This couple is so excited to be parents and I am so excited that I live right next door and will get to hold another tiny baby soon! YEAH!  I got TONS of pictures that I loved but, this was my favorite shot of the day simply for it's artistic value.  I like the focus on the name and the blur on the couple and the bare belly.  So much is said without a ton of detail needed.  LOVE IT!! I will post more over time.  I have an engagement session at 8 AM tomorrow! Wow.  That is early even for me to be up and out of the house. Oye.

   AND, this post would not be complete without a video of Daisy for our family to enjoy this weekend! She is having a blast carrying a bucket around the house and putting her toys in and out of it.  She is carrying this bucket everywhere.  Oh, and she growls whenever she falls down. It is a riot! Joey and I sat on the kitchen floor tonight as Daisy played with a bag of puzzle pieces and we just stared at her in absolute awe and adoration.  I shared with Joey that I almost ache with the desire to capture her detail so vividly so I can hold that precious innocence in my heart forever.  No amount of photos or videos can capture the beauty of a child that can be seen with my own eyes.  Joey agreed that he too was feeling the same overwhelming love for our daughter. Who would have thought that such a sweet moment as a family could be had on the kitchen floor? lol

How to make tissue poms tutorial and Daisy walking

Today is a great day to post a video of Daisy walking for our family. It'll make all the Grandmas and Great Grandmas (and Grandpas) happy so consider it Daisy's Mother's Day gift to you! hehe. She walks all the time now and only crawls to get to a place where she can pull up and stand again to walk some more. She is trying to learn how to stand up on her own but, hasn't quite mastered that yet. I love watching her teetering around the house and the back yard. She seems like even more of a big girl now that she is walking!

The second video is a tutorial that I finally took the time to make on how to make the tissue poms for parties. There are plenty of other tutorials out there but, I had a few requests to do this so I thought, why not. Now you all have no excuses!! They are super easy so you gotta make them for your parties!! lol

Walking - Video

Daisy is walking 10x more today than yesterday when this video was filmed so I'll be sure to upload a better video very soon.  Every time I turn around she is walking across the living room and she is trying really hard to figure out how to stand up on her own without pulling up on anything.  Currently she gets stuck in a hand stand position which is uber adorable to watch.  She is actually getting frustrated by crawling now that she is walking so much better.  I'd say we have a week at most and our kid will be all about walking and the crawling days will be over. Sigh.  Kinda bittersweet but, awesome of course!  There is something SO precious about watching a child learn to balance and walk.  Watching them sway with every step and see them try so hard to stay upright.  Turning the page into a whole new world of exploration and meanwhile closing yet another chapter on the baby phase that I adore so much. So proud of you Daisy bean!


And this video just cracks me up! Daisy loves to shut every single door in our house if given the opportunity. The problem is that she shuts herself in rooms and then wants out immediately thereafter. Silly girl! It sure is fun to take the extra moments to play with her though. Put the laundry down, stop washing the dishes, forget about the to do list and just hang out with my little one. I never regret these moments!




I just got finished watching a lot of Jeff Allen videos on you tube while I was waiting for these videos to upload. Not even sure how I found him as I have never heard of him before. I was looking searching for videos on depression online and depression in marriages because I was curious how much information and encouragement is out there for other people going through what we are. There doesn't appear to much for married folks on youtube so I'm going to change that! I am not sure when the right time will be but, I think Joey and I both feel equally called to minister in this area both in this season and when we are through it. Any way we can bring light and encouragement to others struggling then praise God! Anyways, Jeff Allen has a SUPER powerful testimony on youtube. If you are ever really bored you should watch them! Vloggin - Q and A

I just finished the finale of season 8 of 24. This was by far the most disturbing season to watch in my opinion and upset me a bit..too much torture stuff and bad decisions made but, somehow 24 still managed to end on a tear jerking, I don't want Jack to go note! Ahhhhh. I don't like when my favorite shows come to an end! Boo.

Anyways, back to the real reason I am blogging tonight!
My first vlog is more of a shout out to our family with love from Daisy! Enjoy family! We both (and Joey who wasn't home to join in the vlog fun) miss all of you in California VERY much!!

Sometimes I just need to post a bunch of random, unedited, but, I still want to share them kinda pictures, yah know. So forgive me for these "throw up" posts as I endearingly refer to them as...in other words, a big hurl of randomness;0. lol I know our family doesn't mind the random updates but, for all of you bloggers who are subjected to it I apologize. lol

Daisy was loving my markers and pens but, it only took her like, 3 seconds to open them and write on her new shirt...end of that activity...lol

My first attempt at swirl frosting the tops of my cupcakes. They looked like a dog had dood on them...I hope my next attempt is more swirly and less dumpy;0. Wish me luck. I only have 3 days to figure this out! haha

It's nice that I can just open Daisy's closet and let her play with whatever her little heart fancies. It can entertain her for quite a while some days. Love those chunky legs! Though it might be hard to tell, they are far less chunky than they used to be. Kinda makes me sad. I miss that uber chunky baby chunk! lol.

Tearing our mail into pieces is another favorite pass time for Daisy. Only bummer is that when she is teething like she is ALL THE TIME, she wants me to be right next to her 24/7. I moved away to take this picture and immediately she stopped what she was doing and started crawling to me while crying. Silly baby girl.

We stopped by an awesome nursery about 20 minutes from our house. Everything is SO cheap there!! It was a beautiful day so I snapped a quick pic of Daisy before we hopped back in the car.

Dark pictures but, wanted to show the start of our side yard progress. We bought 6 4 foot tall shrubs and planted them down the side of our house. I hate looking out a window and seeing nothing..or just seeing a neighbors house. I think my soul kinda screams for nature so I had to plant something out in front of our dining room and living room windows. It already has made a difference in my spirit. I was telling a friend just today that when I look out my windows if what I see isn't pleasing to the eye or calming, I tend to feel restless. I love looking out windows and drinking in nature through my eyes. SO calming, refreshing and relaxing! So, that is what we are working on now. We've got more work to do but, we are getting there.

I had the pleasure of getting together with Laura Libert From L to the Third and Ashley Sisk from Ramblings and Photos. Ashley and I really should head up the Raleigh area blogger Connection committee!! What do you think Ashley;0? We had a great time eating dinner, playing with Laura's son and meeting her brother. Wish you lived closer Laura! Horrible point and shoot shot and nice red eye. The one thing that stinks about becoming a photographer is it gets harder and harder to settle for shots like this (unedited, point and shoot style, harsh flash, cheesy) but, alas I don't want to become a picture snob so I'll keep sharing them regardless!

Video Fun

I have SO many little videos to catch up on posting...like 20. So I think I am going to have to start posting a few a week until I get caught up! So hope you don't mind lots of live Daisy footage! lol I'm also feeling the challenge to do a personal vlog..video of me answering questions or just chatting about random nothings. A lot of bloggers are doing this and I always enjoy their videos..though the thought of doing it myself is terrifying!! I don't like being on video EVER...but, I think it could be good therapy! hehe. If I ever get gutsy enough...stay tuned!

In other news, while I was out running errands yesterday I decided to listen to a Jeremy Riddle CD that I haven't played in a long time. I am a big fan of JR. He sings such powerful praise songs straight from his heart and yesterday one song in particular really impacted me. The funny thing to me is that I wasn't feeling low or overwhelmed when I started listening to the song. I think that the Lord saw that I needed the weight that I have been carrying for some time now, lifted from me even when I didn't know it was there. I literally had tears in my eyes and felt my chest well up with emotion as I listened to the powerful chorus of this song. God is SOOOO GOOD!!! Whatever you are going through...big or small, cast it on the Lord today and let him carry it for you!

This dogie is so cool but, why does she always have to lick me?

A whole new Daisy has emerged over the past couple of weeks. A silly, playful, hyper, exploration minded, giggly girl. It's like she grew up overnight and I'm still trying to catch up!! She loves to be chased and she crawls away as fast as she can which is really exhausting for her but, sooooo cute to watch! She loves to climb on me, play peak a boo by herself, climb on everything and I mean everything, she opens all of our cabinets, tore everything off of my bookshelves (video of that next post), says mama and dada all the time and is such a blast!!! I'm in mommy Heaven. Exhausted and body aching...most definitely, but loving every second of it...YESIREE!!!

9 Month Stats

You will have to forgive my over protectiveness in this video. Yes, I am one of those parents...the ones who are always saying, "be careful," and always trying to keep their kids from the inevitable face plant on the floor or on on the corner of a dresser. Daisy is really wobbly right now and is getting hurt constantly which is totally normal for a baby/kid but, I can't help but, want to minimize that in any way possible. Some parents are tougher. Evidently, I am not.

This video sums Daisy up pretty well these days. She follows me around constantly, loves doing whatever I am doing and wants me to hold her all the time. It's a challenging season on one hand because babies are so needy during this phase but, on the other hand...and the lens that I am viewing this through is that this season is going to pass so quickly and Daisy will not want to follow me around forever and in a few more years I will miss these days so I really do savor it and adore the fact that this little person thinks so highly of me. Let's face it; no one thinks as highly of us as our tiny, forgiving children. We are quite blessed!

Daisy just had her 9/10 month wellness visit today. She had her most painful shot to date today (just stating what the ped. told me) and she was quite upset after this shot so it must have been unpleasant. Ug, after all the shots we have been through I still am not a big fan of shot days. Daisy has FINALLY slowed down in her growth and weight. She is 18 pounds 9 ounces which is less than I thought. Joey and I thought for sure she would be over 20 by now by her activity level has evidently burned off some weight and kept the new weight from sticking. OH NO! I'm not ready to part with her baby chub...I must feed her lots more now! haha just kidding..not about the chub part though. I seriously want to eat Daisy's legs (in love people) because they make me so happy all chunky and delicious! She is 27.5 inches long which is not a lot of height growth since her last checkup. She is doing great with her development and milestones. Walking could come any day or it could be a while depending on when Daisy feels like taking the plunge:)

updates: After two tough days and nights with naps and bedtime Daisy is back to her normal sleep schedule and not screaming it out anymore. Praise the Lord!Those days were SO draining and hard on me and her but, I'm proud of how quickly she learned to sit and teach herself to go to sleep from that position!

Marriage humor:
I accidentally used my husband's toothbrush for the first time in seven years today. Perhaps this isn't gross to you but, it is disgusting to me and if I think about it too much I will want to puke. I will say that I am amazed I haven't done this sooner into our marriage! haha

First Words Perhaps

The funny thing about Daisy is that once she does something once, she seldom does it again for quite a while and the same is true for her saying the word bye. She said it a kajillion times before this video and even said bye bye a handful of times and then when I finally got smart and grabbed my camera she was pretty much over it and I apologize but, I say bye bye way to many times at the end of this video in attempt to get her to repeat me...just be thankful you didn't hear how many times I said it before I started filming! haha. I would like to think that Daisy is mimicking what she is hearing me say here and I think in time she will of course get better at this. No, she doesn't know what bye means yet but before this video she would stare at my mouth with deep concentration as I said the words bye bye and really try hard to repeat my words. It was absolutely amazing to watch her focus and then try so hard to pronounce her own bye bye. What a treasure that God has allowed me to experience so many precious moments so soon into my journey as a stay at home mom. I really am having a blast with Daisy. Truth be told, though she has always been a happy, smiley baby, she seems much happier than usual now and she laughs more! We went to the post office and to Marshalls today and she had every woman gushing over her and talking to her. Daisy is chatting a lot with everyone now too. It's amazing!!! I can't help it. I'm so in love and so is Daddy. This little one is too incredible for words!

Have I mentioned lately how much I love my chubby baby girl. I have? Well, I just can't help but, say it again. She is just SO precious to me. I love her baby rolls, her smile, her squeaks, her smell, her hair, her feet (I'm obsessed with her tiny feet..can't help it...look how cute they look holding onto her rabbit like they are her second set of hands...awesome!), her teeth, her whine (don't love it but, it is distinctly Daisy so that makes it special), her noises, her farts, her burps, her sleepy eyes, her rough grabs at my face, her tantrum scream, her cuddly moments and everything in between. LOVE this little girl.

Finally a picture that proves that she does have teeth!

It cracks us up to watch Daisy scoot around on her back. Every night I lay her down in her crib in the lower middle area and an hour later when I check on her she has smashed herself into the upper right corner of her crib. Silly girl! Love all her squeaks and bird chirps!

Not So Little Anymore

Daisy has been doing some really silly things this past week. She makes this new mouth smacking noise to imitate us (see video below) and now she crinkles her noise and makes a funny face when she is excited. She is so much fun! I kid you not something is different about my little gal...maybe it's the new noises and faces she's making, maybe it's that it appears that she has grown a ton in length all of a sudden, maybe it's the fact that she just looks like more of a big baby girl and not a little baby girl anymore...I'm not sure but, I just look at my little pumpkin and I am find myself just staring at her in awe. She's changing so much and so fast!! We've been working on crawling but, I think she might have a little longer to go before she gets it. She's trying so hard though.

Truthfully, I'm kinda a blank hole in my head today so I'll just let you enjoy the video. Isn't she just edibleicious! (my new word:). hehe
